The Umbrella Project

The Umbrella Project grew out of the need for the Fixer’s Collective to pay rent. Umbrellas are one of the most common free material sources in NY; after a rainstorm, broken umbrellas can be found on many streets. Through “harvesting” the fabric from these otherwise wasted items and creating a simple pattern that enabled even novice sewers to shape the fabric into functional bags, we were able to create a product to generate funds with close to zero overhead.
